Our Hearing Test Process

At Trusted Hearing, our hearing test is comprehensive and delivered according to best audiological practices by our accredited audiologists. Our priority is to give you clear answers about your hearing health in a comfortable and unrushed environment.

During the assessment, our audiologist will discuss your medical history and any hearing concerns you may have. You’ll then wear headphones and listen to a series of sounds at different frequencies, indicating when you hear them. We may also conduct a speech recognition test to assess how well you understand words in various environments in addition to tympanometry to analyse your middle ear health. You’ll also be able to see your ear drum using our video otoscopy technology.

Once complete, we’ll explain your results and recommend the best solutions to help you hear your absolute best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our comprehensive hearing tests are performed by accredited audiologists and include a range of assessments such as full-frequency pure-tone testing, tympanometry, video otoscopy, and, where appropriate, speech discrimination testing. We take the time to explain your results and answer your questions in detail.

Hearing test appointments usually last around 60 minutes, but we allow up to 90 minutes if you’re interested in discussing hearing aids or have more complex hearing concerns. We ensure the session is unrushed and tailored to your needs.

Free hearing checks or screenings — sometimes advertised as “hearing checks” — are often brief, limited tests performed by non-audiologists. They typically assess a narrow frequency range and may miss important issues. In contrast, our comprehensive hearing tests are detailed and follow audiological best practices for accurate diagnosis.

No referral is needed to book a hearing test at Trusted Hearing. However, if you’d like to claim a Medicare rebate, a GP referral is required. The referral doesn’t need to be addressed to our clinic.

Yes. If you have a valid Medicare card and a referral from a doctor — such as a GP, paediatrician, or ENT specialist — you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of approximately $50. The referral does not need to be specifically addressed to Trusted Hearing, and we can process the rebate for you at the time of your appointment.

For adults under 65, the cost is $140. We bulk bill hearing tests for seniors aged 65 and above. For children (ages 1+), the fee is $150.

All hearing assessments at Trusted Hearing are conducted by fully accredited audiologists.

Yes. Our hearing tests meet the requirements for Victorian Police applications and other job-related hearing assessments. Just let us know your needs when booking.

Yes, we offer hearing tests for children aged 1 and up. Paediatric testing is tailored using age-appropriate methods such as play audiometry and VROA, and is performed in our sound-treated paediatric testing room.

Our tests are conducted in soundproofed rooms built to Australian standards. Unlike traditional booths, our rooms are spacious and comfortable, helping clients feel relaxed while ensuring accurate results.
